James R. Nelligan

James R. Nelligan is the President of Nelligan Associates, where he has devoted close to 100% of his career studying the ancillary benefits market for the last ten years.  He has extensive experience particularly within the New Jersey Temporary Disability Benefit space, consulting employee benefit brokers within the tristate area and as far as California.  NJ TDB is James’ passion.  His recent activities even include establishing the New Jersey Coalition of Automotive Retailers NJ TDB program.

A 2005 Rutgers University graduate, James started in the individual life insurance and financial planning arena.  He was licensed with a Series 6 and 63, and worked at firms such as American Income Life, MetLife and Penn Mutual, before venturing into the employee benefits world and starting Nelligan Associates in 2008. In 2009, James assumed Navesink Benefits Agency, Inc. and a new employee benefits practice was born.  James went on from there to become a general agent and assist brokers through the intricacies within the statutory disability market.

Chris joined Nelligan Associates in 2016 after a successful 10-year career at Unum.  During that time, he managed core group and large case voluntary benefits sales in the NJ market.  He was a perennial top performer, regularly qualifying for the company’s sales incentive conference.

Chris earned his Degree in Business Administration from The University of Connecticut (Go Huskies!) and resides in Wall Township, NJ with his wife and his 2 daughters.

Bryan has invested more than a decade focused exclusively on Ancillary Benefits, consulting with the best in the business. “His long reputation for delivering a high level of service & expertise to brokers is a major addition to the strongest ancillary team in the business,” says President, James Nelligan.

In addition to personal production, Bryan takes a lead role in Nelligan’s National Territory Expansion Strategy with marketing, recruiting & developing talented people as we launch new territories and grow nationwide.

Bryan’s core focus is helping Brokers & Consultants navigate the ancillary benefits by solving problems, saving time, growing revenue and providing industry-leading. solutions.  More than ever, our industry is stretched for time, talent and resources. Bryan’s team fill that void by helping with every aspect of the process from RFP to multi-year renewal planning and ongoing service.

Prior to Nelligan, Bryan worked as a Sale Executive at Unum responsible for new businessDuring that time, he produced over $50M inbusiness, mentored others and was consistently recognized as a top performer by setting territory sales records and exceeding goals for over10 straight years.

He is a graduate of The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) and lives his family in Verona, New Jersey.

Kevin McMaster

Kevin McMaster joined Nelligan Associates in 2017. As an ancillary expert, he provides a consultative approach to employee benefits brokers and clients within all aspects of group and voluntary benefits.

Kevin has several years of experience within the broker community, where he has helped managed broker and client relationships for some of the most prestigious firms throughout Western NY and surrounding areas.

Kevin will be managing the Western NY region for Nelligan Associates and resides in Rochester, NY.

Anthony joined Nelligan Associates in 2016.  As an ancillary expert, he consults employee benefits brokers and clients on New Jersey Temporary Disability Benefits (NJ TDB) and all other aspects of group insurance.

He has been working in the employee benefits industry since 1999 specializing in Disability, Life, and Dental insurance. Anthony has worked for industry leading ancillary benefit carriers throughout those years, qualifying for leadership conference 8 consecutive years.

Anthony earned his Bachelor’s degree at Seton Hall University and resides in Garwood.

Joe joined Nelligan Associates in 2019.  As an ancillary benefits expert with 11 years of experience, he partners closely with brokers and employers on all aspects of ancillary benefits such as disability (including NY DBL/PFL statutory benefits), life, dental, vision, leave management and supplemental voluntary benefits primarily in the Western & Central NY region.

He spent the first 9 years of his career as a Senior Sales Account Executive at Unum, where he was a consistent top performer, and was accepted into the company’s Management Development Program (MDP). Upon completion of the MDP program, Joe served in a management role in Unum’s Hartford, CT sales and client management office. His extensive industry knowledge and experience working in multiple markets brings exceptional value to Nelligan Associates and the brokers and employers they serve.

Joe earned his degree in Financial Economics from the University of Rochester (NY) with a certificate in management studies from the Simon School of Business.  While at Rochester, Joe played linebacker for the university’s football team.

He resides in Brighton, NY with his wife Chelsea.

Chris Lee

Chris joined Nelligan Associates in 2018. As an ancillary benefits expert, he consults brokers and employers on group disability (including NJ & NY statutory benefits), dental, leave management and supplemental voluntary benefits primarily in the PA and South Jersey area.

He spent the first 5 years of his career as an Actuarial Analyst in the Pension industry. He then moved on to work as a senior sales account executive at Unum for 14 years, where he was a top performer, and was accepted into the company’s Management Development Program.

Chris earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and Master’s Degree in Business Administration (Finance Concentration) from Villanova University where he played for the Villanova Basketball Team. He resides in West Chester, PA with his wife Donna, and 3 daughters, Samantha, Savannah and Sienna.

Bud joined the team in 2019 to launch the Dallas, TX market after a remarkably successful 30 year career managing the Dallas Sales Office for an industry leading ancillary benefits carrier. 

During his three decade tenure there, the office was consistently one of the top performers in the country, winning Office of the Year on several occasions.  He attributes the prolonged success to building the right team, loyalty, and hard work.

Casey joined Nelligan in 2020. He has been a partner and ancillary benefits expert to his brokers since 2001. He works closely with his relationships to share ideas, consult, and provide expertise on all aspects of ancillary benefits such as disability, life, dental, vision, leave management, voluntary benefits, technology, and enrollment solutions. His partnerships in the Chicago Market have included brokers in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, and Wisconsin.

He spent the start of his career as a Project Manager in the Construction Industry. He then moved on to work in varying sales and leadership roles in the Insurance Industry. Casey has helped grow and develop the Chicago Market for many of the leading insurance carriers while also helping lead and develop sales and account management teams.

Casey earned his Bachelor’s of Science degree from Southern Illinois University and his Master’s in Business Administration from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He resides in Glen Ellyn, IL with his wife Meghan, and 2 daughters, McKenna, and Kendell.

Dave joined Nelligan Associates in 2020 after 14 years at The Hartford as a Senior Regional Account Executive.  During his time, he achieved considerable success including: National Disability Sales Leader, multiple Regional Sales Leader awards and a regular qualifier to Honors Conference.  He was a perennial leader in Retiree Health and Public & Education production and joins our growing organization with his GBDS and VBS Designations.

Eric joined Nelligan Associates in 2020 as the Ohio Market Owner with over 20 years of group ancillary benefits expertise.  Eric partners with brokers and their agencies to provide employers an industry leading insurance solution for life, disability, dental, vision, and supplemental health benefits.

He started his career with a series 7 as Financial Consultant, four years with Merrill Lynch and 3 years at PaineWebber/UBS.  In 2000, he entered the group ancillary market with The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America consulting all sized employers from the Cleveland Regional Group Office.  In the first decade of his ancillary career he sold over 1000 policies and won the Central Division Dental Premium Award until 2012 when he became Sales Manager for Lincoln Financial Group in Northern Ohio.  After two years at Lincoln he rejoined Guardian as Core Market Sales Consultant in the Columbus Regional Group Office.  His extensive industry knowledge includes partnerships with multiple benefit administrative system providers, enrollment firms, executive plan designs, retirement solutions and college tuition benefits.

Eric earned his Economics degree from Baldwin Wallace University where he played football for the Yellow Jackets and was an officer for Alpha Tau Omega.

He currently resides in Galena, OH with his wife Jenn and three children.

Julia joined Nelligan as the Colorado Market Owner in 2021. As an expert in ancillary benefits, Julia takes a holistic approach to consulting with brokers and employers on their benefit plans, enrollment, implementation, and technology solutions. These solutions include Group Disability, Life, Dental, Vision, Leave Management and Supplemental Voluntary Benefits.

Prior to joining Nelligan, Julia had a distinguished career as a Sales Executive for top ancillary carriers in both Florida and Colorado where she won multiple awards and was a consistent sales leader. Julia earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Finance from Florida State University. 

Julia currently lives in Denver where she is a huge Rockies baseball fan and enjoys skiing and spending time with her family and friends.

Jaclyn joined the Nelligan team in 2018 after 7 years at Unum. She is responsible for all day to day operations including RFP management, implementation, renewals, and client relations. Jaclyn brings a tremendous work ethic and experience level that keeps the Nelligan engine running.

Debbie joined the team in 2019 after several years on the broker side as a benefits marketer. She has worked with various group sizes/multiple offices and is certified as a Group Benefits Disability Specialist (GBDS).

Helen joined the team in 2019 after 15 years on the general agent side with Savoy Associates and Arthur J Gallagher & Co.  She is responsible for all day to day operations including commissions and licensing.

Molly earned her degree in Corporate Finance from St. John Fisher College in Rochester, NY.  She lives in Wolverine Lake, MI with her husband Kyle, and two daughters, Bridget and Claire.

Tricia joined the team in 2021 and brings a wealth of knowledge from having spent 20 years working in the employee benefits arena. Her experience in vendor negotiations and RFP development coupled with her aptitude for working with an assortment of account sizes and funding complexities make her a valuable addition to the team.

Prior to working with Nelligan, Tricia spent her time in the financial services sector as Senior Financial Analyst, Client Market & Data Consultant, Director of Analytics, as well as Marketing/Underwriting.

Tricia attended S.U.N.Y at Old Westbury where she studied elementary education and mathematics. She has her GBDS (Group Benefits Disability Specialist) designation and VBS (Voluntary Benefits Specialist) designation.

Tricia recently relocated back to her hometown and is currently residing in Brooklyn, NY.

Nick joined the team in 2019 and brings 8 years of information technology experience to Nelligan Associates. Specializing in web development with a focus on user experience. Nick has attained his masters certification in user experience design and development. Working with high profile clients like Bank of America, JP Morgan Chase, and TRAC Intermodal he brings many skills to the table.

Nick is responsible for the day to day IT operations as well as website maintenance for Nelligan Associates.

He lives in East Windsor, NJ with his wife and son.
